The eighth annual Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge North American Butterfly Association Butterfly Count was conducted on July 2. The refuge count is one of hundreds coordinated by the North American Butterfly Association in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Counts are conducted for one calendar day within a 15-mile diameter circle. Range: Argentina north through Central America, the West Indies, and Mexico to peninsular Florida and South Texas. Occasionally strays and colonizes north to Connecticut, southern Illinois, eastern Kansas, southern Arizona, and southern California.
